Curtis Knight,
a prolific songwriter with more than 200 titles registered at BMI, passed
on the torch in 1999 before he laid down his temporary space-suit....
He will live on also
through his music. He was a man who left a trail of Light, with his own
integrity, ability to share and being a conduit for the message that he
felt is important for all of us.
This chapter wants
to introduce you to some of his titles containing beautiful messages that
he was able to convey.
"Brothers
and Sisters, we're like a rainbow. Together we can change the world, if
we learn how to live together
there'll be
a future for every boy and girl."
(From
his song Brothers & Sisters)

As he and MAZ dived
into the work of his moved past, the songs, lyrics and ideas, they found
out that musically both composers are very close. Curtis' wish was that
his music would be living on. They picked out songs that both were atracted
to.
Although they were
exploring the Blues vain with refreshing new material, the other
song-material was worked on, too. This happened from the time on that they
finished the first Volume of Double Rainbow.
To give an example:
"Shadows in my mind"
was the very first balad the two producers had chosen for a re-production
for a later volume. Curtis had written it in 1995. Here's the lyrics of
the song. |

Shadows
In My Mind
(Knight/arr:Weber-C)
I hear
the voices in the distance, calling out the names I don’t hear mine
There’s
someone walking here beside me, and they say
Don't
try to leave before your time
I see
a light inside your window
is it
shining just for me
Maybe
I need someone to talk to
Just
let me in and we’ll see
And the
Shadows in my mind keep on walking
And the
Shadows in my mind keep on talking
I touch
the earth and feel the spirit, I saw the mountains kiss the sky
You never
know if you can make it
I only
know I gotta try, I only know I gotta try
And the
Shadows in my mind keep on walking
And the
Shadows in my mind keep on talking
(C. Knight)

HappyDream-Music
This term "Happy Dream"
has been clarified in a previous chapter. Here's another excerpt
taken from "A Course In Miracles"
"The holy instant, the
holy relationship, the Holy Spirit's teaching, and all the means by which
salvation is accomplished, would have no purpose.
For they are all but aspects
of the plan to change your dreams of fear to happy dreams, from which you
waken easily to knowledge. Put yourself not in charge of this, for
you cannot distinguish between advance and retreat. Some of your greatest
advances you have judged as failures, and some of your deepest
retreats you have evaluated
as success."
MAZ listened
very closely when Curtis explained to him that "one
needs to learn to take success and failure on the same level."
The coming together
of friends, musicians and families under this project has definitely been
a great gift for all involved. Because the joining under a common goal
is what makes the separation and lonelyness undone.
In the spirit of this
aspect of the shared and happy dream lets have a look at how the Double
Rainbow endeavor,
where a group of individuals joined to manifest a NEW SOUND.

CD
Presentation with Curtis Knight, 21st of November 1999
Larry 'Wild' Wrice
joined the Double Rainbow Productions
and for a great deal thanks to his advice and expertise, the first Band
for the Presentation of Volume 1
was formed.
Meanwhile
Curtis physical condition hadn't really improved. He got stronger medication,
but still he would discuss and plan everything with MAZ. When he
was asked if the project has been difficult for him, he answered: "Not
at all! Working is Energy, it is food for the soul."
The detailed planning
for the presentation, though, was performed by Larry and MAZ. Rehearsals,
portfolio and organisation were under a certain time pressure. Once the
21st of November 1999 was set as the date, and the WINDHOEK at Lelystad-Haven
chosen as the location, all came together to make this day unforgettable
for all.

MAZ: "Thanks
to all the friends in the Haven, those beautiful people with their strong
support and help, we'll never forget that day. Two shows were performed,
one at afternoon and one at night. Curtis stayed all day! I was so happy
he would enjoy this day so much!"

Here is rare video-material
from the Presentation. Not only can you hear what Curtis has to say on
Blues, on the Project and MAZ; the whole atmosphere of the day is
captured nicely. [Thanks to Alexander Kok for shooting the material!]

to appear to have been a historical moment!"

WINGS
OF THE WIND
After the presentation
of the Double Rainow Vol.1
MAZ asked Curtis how he would like the idea of a regular Music-Cafe
in the Haven. Because so many people have enjoyed both shows. "I
Like it!" was Curtis' reply. When he was asked to give it a title,
he immediately replied "Let's call it Wings
of the Wind".
So, at the -average-
most windy corner of entire Holland, the WINGS OF THE WIND (WOW) musicfestivals
took place more than 6 times in 2000. |

The Double Rainbow
Band was such a local success, that for
June 24th, 2000, the "PRINS BERNHARD CULTUUR- FONDS" was sponsoring a tribute
concert evening in the "Windhoek",
besides more than 20 local companies, who also sponsored.
Here are the Highlights
of some of the WOW evenings for you. Larry
'Wild' Wrice did also bring his Chicago
Blues Busters, whose mission is to perform
and to lecture about the REAL Chicago Blues Style, which is often being
confused with MuddyWater.

Meanwhile, HappyDream-Music
has been busy to put a
TRIBUTE Show together, where a brand new Double
Rainbow formation would perform music written
by Curtis Knight and MAZ in 1999, and other material generally
unknown to the public, written by Curtis Knight during his long and fruitful
career.
As a preview to that
program, we proudly share with you some recordings. We already said, you'll
meet the HUNGRY DOG one more
time. Well, pump up the volume and enjoy the millenium edition!
